What is now commonly refered to as the Rift of Maraith, cost the lives of nearly three hundred and sixty people.  Though the Broken Witches were working toward finding a better cure for the disease known at phyaclian which to date has always been fatal.  Through tapping into both Gnostic powers and the bending of the elements,  the Broken Witches warped the fabric of the universe.
